Altering one-person, one-vote?

In 1994, Lee Kuan Yew suggested that married Singaporeans between the ages of 35 and 60, and with children, should have two votes each, in order to give more weight to the votes of people with the greatest stake in the country. The public was not receptive to the idea, calling it unfair and undemocratic, and the idea slipped from public view, until it was revived briefly in February 2000 by B.G. George Yeo.27 Singaporeans have learned that PAP trial balloons often foreshadow action at some later date. However, in mid-2000 Lee Kuan Yew said that altering the one-person, one-vote concept was not being discussed for the time being because it was not necessary demographically. He then added, “But what happens when the number of old people escalates?”28
